While offering flight services from Wichita to Chicago and Dallas, Southwest Airlines had a loss of $7 million in the 1st eight months of its service. And it was able to make some profit by providing flight services from Wichita to Las Vegas.
However, the Southwest airline company was able to recover the loss of $ 6.8 million with the help of Kansas affordable airfares program. Through this program, Southwest airline gathered nearly $ 6.5 millions in a year.
It has accepted the entire amount gathered from Kansas program which include $1.75 million from Sedgwick and Wichita and $4.75 from state government.
Southwest airline is adding new routes this month because of the upcoming termination of the Wright Amendment. In the midst of July 2013 and February 2014, this company gained earnings of $ 57,600 while flying flights from Wichita to Las Vegas.
The spokesman of Southwest airline ‘Dan Landson’ said in a statement that they will not give their opinion on dollar figures or specific routes but also said that, “we ate working to establish a self sustaining operation in the city of Wichita”.
